Districtwide
Facility Issues
The District’s seven aging schools each face numerous issues tied to outdated, inefficient infrastructure. Funds from the bond referendum would address these critical facility needs districtwide, saving taxpayer dollars and protecting the safety, security, and well-being of our students, staff, and community.
Among the most critical facility challenges throughout the District are outdated, inefficient HVAC, roofing, fire sprinklers, electrical, plumbing, lighting, foundations, and more.
COSTLY AND DISRUPTIVE REPAIRS
Much of the District’s aging infrastructure has reached the end of its useful life and requires frequent maintenance and costly, disruptive emergency repairs. Last year, more than $250,000 was spent on HVAC service calls alone.
ANTICIPATED COST SAVINGS
A portion of the referendum funds would be used to update aging HVAC systems, replace failing and inefficient plumbing systems, and install new LED lighting districtwide, saving an estimated $300,000 a year.
FACILITY IMPROVEMENTs
Among the districtwide facility improvements that would be addressed with an approved bond measure include:
Replacing aging electrical and plumbing systems
Updating fire safety equipment
Replacing aging roofing and gutters
Repairing foundations
Addressing asbestos abatement
Enhancing ADA accessibility
Updating HVAC and air quality systems
Upgrading lighting to energy-efficient LED
Installing lockdown-safe doors
Improving exterior fencing and railings
The bottom line
The District allocates about $8.3 million a year to maintain its seven schools, but it’s not enough to keep up with the failing infrastructure.
Waiting would cost millions of dollars more each year due to construction inflation.
Investing in long-term solutions rather than continuing to fund temporary fixes saves taxpayer dollars.
Every school in the District would be improved, providing a safer, healthier learning environment for all students.
Stronger, safer school facilities help attract and retain quality teachers.
